Early Life and Domestic Career
Ryan David Rickelton, a South African cricketer born on July 11, 1996, is quite known for his brilliant batting as well as keeping skills. As a left-handed-batting wicketkeeper, he plays for Gauteng and MI Cape Town in domestic cricket. In his first-class debut for Gauteng against Northerns, Rickelton became popular in no time. In August 2017, he was picked in the squad of Nelson Mandela Bay Stars for the first season of the T20 Global League held in October. In 2017 however, he played his Twenty20 debut for Gauteng during the Africa T20 Cup but unfortunately, the tournament got postponed and was later canceled.
Rickelton demonstrated his aptitude by finishing as the top scorer in the 2017–18 CSA Provincial One-day Challenge with 351 runs in eight matches. He was the top run-scorer in the 2017-18 Sunfoil 3 Days Cup for Gauteng with 562 runs in six matches. In June 2018, Rickelton became a member of the Highveld Lions squad for the 2018-19 season and later got included in the Cricket South Africa Emerging squad. International Career
It was in January 2021 that Rickelton first got to play for South Africa at the senior level during an International T20 series against Pakistan when he made positive steps in his international career. Thereafter, in April 2021, he went on to be part of Gauteng’s squad for the 2021-22 cricket season. That was in May 2021 when Rickelton was called up for South Africa A to play Zimbabwe A and came off top being the highest run scorer with 224 runs, the only hundred in the games. Due to his exceptional individual performances, he soon found a place in the South African One Day International team that toured the Netherlands for a series in November 2021.
Rickelton had made his way into the South African Test squad and turned to be part of the team for their series against India in December 2021 and their tour to New Zealand in January 2022. He was also named in South Africa’s Test squad for the series against Bangladesh in March 2022, and on March 31, 2022, made his Test debut. Rickelton subsequently made his ODI debut against West Indies on 18th March 2023.
