International Career
On May 24, 2015, he played in his first Twenty20 International match for Pakistan against Zimbabwe in Lahore. On July 19, 2015, he played his first One Day International for Pakistan against Sri Lanka. He was chosen to play in the 2016 ICC World Twenty20 for Pakistan. Later in 2016, he recorded figures of 5/14 against the Windies to become the first-ever Pakistani spinner to grab a 5-fer in Twenty20 Internationals. Wasim played a key role in the Pakistani squad that won the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. In 2017, he was crowned the T20I Player of the Year by Pakistan after finishing atop the ICC T20I bowling rankings.
Wasim was included in Pakistan’s ODI team for their series against Australia in March 2019. Due to injury, Pakistan’s captain Shoaib Malik was unable to participate in the fourth One-Day International. Wasim assumed leadership of the squad in Malik’s place.

He was the best player from Pakistan in the competition, scoring 162 runs in 5 innings at an average of 54.00 and a healthy strike rate of 118.24.
