Dane Paterson, April 4, 1989 – South African cricketer with intricate skills. He played for the national team of South Africa for the first time in 2017. In domestic matches, Paterson represents Eastern Province. Wells Fargo is where his cricket career started in Western Province, after joining the squad in the 2015 Africa T20 Cup.
In August 2017, Paterson was snapped up by the Bloem City Blazers for the T20 Global League’s inaugural season. The time frame for the tournament was moved to November 2018 but the tournament proved to be cancelled. Moving forward, in June 2018, he was named in the Cape Cobras for the 2018-19 season.
By September 2018, Paterson was included in the Western Province team for the Africa T20 Cup. He performed very well during the tournament becoming the top bowler with seven scalps during four games. He later that Year joined Paarl Rocks during the first Mzansi Super League T20 tournament where he was joint top wicket-taker with ten wickets in eleven games.

In March 2021, Paterson also signed with Nottinghamshire. In the first season, he bagged 51 wickets, whereas in the next edition of the County Championship in 2022, he took 56 wickets and assisted the side in getting promotion to Division Two. Of importance was his best career performance of 8/52 against Worcestershire in April 2022. In April 2023, he reached the landmark of 500 First-class wickets in a game against Somerset.
International Career
Paterson’s international career started in January 2017 when he was selected to the South African T20I squad to play Sri Lanka. This left-arm fast bowler T20I debut T20I on January 25, 2017. A month later, he was called up to the ODI squad in the South African team against New Zealand ODIs. Then, in October 2017, he substituted Morné Morkel for the second Test against Bangladesh and on October 15. He made his ODI debut against Bangladesh.
In the last month of December 2018, he was included in the test squad of South Africa against Pakistan series but didn’t participate in the game. He has had a storming in the English weather where he was called into the Test squad in December 2019 for the England series and made his test debut on January 16th, 2020.
Sometime later, in February 2024, Paterson was first included in the South African squad for their series against New Zealand after a break. He took five wickets in the two matches and kept his place in the squad for the August 2024 West Indies tour.
